How can you determine whether a wall is load bearing?

If the joists cross over top of the wall, there is a chance that the wall is load bearing(not necessarily, though). If the joists do not continue to another point after crossing over top(either a cantilever floor or the joist ends with another sistered next to it to continue on), then the chances are incredibly great that it's a load bearing wall ;)
If they joists run parallel to the wall, then of course you're in the clear.
Thanks,
