Sounds like you have it connected properly, with the exception of the earth.

There should be a green or yellow connection on the light for earth.

But not having the earth connected would not prevent the light from working.

I assume the previous light fixture worked? I also assume there are good working lamps in the fixture.

Do you have a voltage meter to read 230-240 volts across the black and red with the switch on?

Thanks for your advice, I don't have a voltage meter but the previous light worked fine, the ikea system I am talking about is called radium, its on a track and you attach the spots to it, thought at first it was the transformer so got it replaced, new one in place still no lights

I also assumed you are located in the UK.

I tried to get to the Ikea page for Radium, but it is not working for some reason,

The US version I assume is identical, except the voltage is different.

Best I can offer is to check your core connections at the terminals of the fixture, and to check that the transformer and each lamp head is secure.

Beyond that, you will need test equipment to troubleshoot the problem.

Ikea does not mention one, but be sure there is not another switch on the fixture. Also be sure each lamp is seated properly.

I hope this helps.
