A girl who I like and have liked for a long time. Never seemed interested in me, It happens !

However I saw her out with a man, who I have seen her with before and she made a bee line across the pub to introduce him to me as her new boyfriend !

I can't figure out why ?

Anythoughts on this?

IMO, she was trying to get rid of him. He might have a stalking nature and she felt safer knowing you were available. Don't be surprised now that you've served 'her' purpose, that she will ignore you again in the future. If not, and she actually is communicating with you, she might have used him to get closer to you because she is also shy... It's hard to figure people out sometimes, and we are all a little shy at the beginning.

No matter what motive she had, hope things work out for you.

Don't get your hopes up. She may be telling you nicely, that there is no hope as she is busy.

I'm a little confused. Did she introduce you as her boyfriend to him or introduce him as her new boyfriend to you? It sounds like she was using him to get a message to you, or using you to get a message to him. Either way she needs to get a set of balls and stop toying with people.
