There is a product called Frontline that you put on the neck of the puppy at bedtime. It has a very weak anti-flea medium that will spread through the fur and keep your puppy free for several weeks. Vets here (Sweden) say that it is harmless. We use it (boxer now 12 months). Don't pat your puppy where the fur is wet just let it dry out overnight. Wash the puppy's bedclothes etc to remove the rest of the parasites and their eggs and other states.

The vets have a number of effective products including the Frontline. I know the package the Revolution I use on my dogs says it is safe for 6 week olds. Best thing is to talk to your vet and choose what is best for you. Most puppies get first combo shot and worming at 6 weeks.

Ask the vet about treating the house too. A recent study suggests vacuuming is highly effective in killing fleas and their eggs. However, in the past, people have found they needed to do a lot more to clean up a flea infestation. Unless it is down in the 30's outside, you may have to treat your lawn too. You need to use a product in the house that kills flea eggs too. Otherwise, within 2 weeks, new fleas will hatch out.
