Hi, We just bought & moved into our house 2 months ago & seem to have a glitch in the water. What happens is when you run the water whether in the shower, sink, washer or whatever anywhere in the house at some point the water stops for a minute or two & then comes back on. We are on a well system here that may be about 7 years old. The pressure is very good when it is working. What could the problem be?

Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for posting a question here at this site.
I am sure someone will eventually give you maybe some better answers than I can; but since no one has answered you in 24 hours, I will.
I also have a pump (well), but run off the county water system usually. I use my pump for outside water, lawn, wash vehicles, etc.
There are three things that might need checking.
1. Your switch. The pump switch may be going bad, and not turning the pump on when it's supposed to.
2. There is a tank, some are very small, near the pump. It could have more air in it than it should.
3. The "point" or filter on the bottom of the pipe going down into the well might be clogged off somewhat.
Maybe one of the other professional experts will be along and give you better answers. I do wish you good luck.

Fredg, thanks for some options for us to check. We will check these & hope that one is what the problem is!

Thanks!

I usually don't bother answering pluming questions leaving them for Tom. Not sure why he missed this one.

I highly doubt the problem is with the pump switch or in the well. Most likely it is at the pressure tank or closer to your point of use. Even if the pump cuts off, the pressure in the pressure tank should continue the flow although at a reduced rate. Something in the tank could be blocking the flow or beyond the tank. Not sure what it could be. Do you have a back flow preventer, filter, or softener? Something could be wrong in one. Maybe while waiting for Tom, try changing the filter cartridge.

We actually tried one of the items Fredg suggested. We replaced the pressure switch & went ahead & also replaced the gage. Not sure which helped, but we now have no problems with the water going on & off!

Thanks for your help!

If the problem was as you described it, it may come back.
