Ok, so I was talking to her on AIM, and she kept hinting that she got something for me for my birthday (this Friday 12/21). I like her, and I think the might like me, but I'm not ready to ask her out or anything. If she does get me something, how should I respond? Let me tell you how close we are as friends. I met her at the beginning of the year in September, she is really nice, but we don't really hang out outside of school. We have nicknames for each other, "brother" and "sister", because she thinks we look alike. We walk with each other to classes and talk a lot. We hang out in PE and homeroom, and we have a game we've been playing for a while, seeing who can shank the other person the most. So, should I just say "Thanks a lot", should I hug her (we haven't hugged before). What should I do? I don't want to over or under react.

Okay. So, it sounds like the two of you are developing a close friendship. You already communicate outside of school hours, at least electronically by texting. If she does give you a gift, and if it were me in your shoes, I would say "Thank you so much! That was very thoughtful of you!" I would also give her a hug. I don't see any problem in doing that.
