Hi Smoke,
Initially, I have to say :
Always backup important documents before performing any formatting or re-partitioning. Improper partitioning and/or formatting can destroy all data on a drive (not just the partition you are working with).
When you say your reformat disk I'll assume you mean your system recovery disk that reverts the computer to how it was when you got it. If you mean something different please let me know and we'll go from there.
Could you elaborate on your needs, why do you want to partition your drive, is it to create some separate drives for storage etc or what?
When you say "I dont want all my stuff just c drive only" do you want to just keep the things on C drive or everything but C?
How is your system configured at the moment ( how many drive letters and what's on them that you want to keep).
Do you want to re-install windows on a new partition or keep the existing setup and just change the partition layout?
Sorry for all the questions but there's a few different approaches depending on your answers.

Buy Partition Magic. It's made specifically for what you describe.

Hi, well, I was hoping to use c drive for my xp systems and the programs to ru it, and d drive is for my cd rom, I was wanting to put 40 gb'sa into c drive and split the rest up in other drives, but I wasn't wanting to have to reformat since I just got it last week, I hope this explains what I would like to do, any help would be gratefully appreciated, thxs

Hi, You will need some software that resizes your hard disk partitions. A lot of people recommend Partition Magic:
http://www.powerquest.com/home_homeoffice/products/system_performance/pm80/index.html
But I have not used it so I will recommend Partition Commander, as I like this one:
http://www.v-com.com/product/Partition_Commander_Home.html
However, there are free utilities that will do the job, but I haven't really used these so make sure you:
1- read any documents that come with the programs before using the programs
2 - make sure of your backup - if this all goes wrong can you use a system recovery cd to restore your system.
Ranish Partition Manager
