I started up my computer today (XP), and the internet wouldn't work at all. It worked yesterday, but not today. I have tried it on my laptop, and it worked, and now I am on the original computer, but booted in linux, and it is working also. For some reason, there are no restore points to restore from, and there are no viruses or ad/spyware that avg or spybot could find.

Any help? Im desperate.

Check your browser settings and make sure you don't have any static IP's hanging around. Can you ping from a DOS prompts?

Open a CMD window (DOS window) and try pinging Yahoo! (http://www.yahoo.com) If it doesn't ping then you might have a bad IP stack setting in XP.

If it comes back then your network is fine. I would then check your browser settings.

Firewall turned on? Disable it.

No browsers work (tried IE, ff and opera), can't find anything wrong with the settings. I can't ping anything, and what's an ip stack setting? Oh and its not the firewall :D, the windows one wasn't on when I went to disable it, and when I tried to enable it it failed...

Thanks for your help
