I love to lie... so much that I guess you could call it an obsession. I'm only 14 and I'm currently doing my GCSE's, I have a great family and some really nice friends but I just can't seem to tell the truth.
I thought it might have been attention seeking when I first realised that I lied too much. I brought a bandage once and wrapped it around my wrist and then told my mum that I had fallen over and sprained my wrist... she believed me and I didn't even feel guilty about lying! But I actually get quite a lot of attention. Then I started telling my friends lies about my family and what I got up to after school, I told them that I would go shopping 3 times a week and get loads, other times I just didn't tell them anything about my life...
I tell my parents a load of bull about what I did at school and since they're divorced I seem to tell them different things.
Another thing is that I like to pretend I am other people... I get a real kick out of creating email addresses and pretending to be people that I've made up in my head and I try really hard to try and make myself believe that I am them...
Is there something wrong with me?

Well, since you are a self admitted liar, are you lying now to get the attention of those of us on this forum?

Hm, I had a friend in high school who was a compulsive liar. She was a great girl, but I always knew she was lying, but I didn't say anything; I just never believed her until I saw for myself.
People probably know you are lying if they are paying any attention at all!
I would guess that you feel like a "nobody" and your stories make you more interesting to others in your mind. Guess what? When it comes down to it, everyone is a nobody. :) We all should just be our authentic selves so we can be loved and be happy for who we are.
Before the lying gets too ingrained and you get a reputation you can't live down, go to a therapist. Sounds like your parents disruptrive lives have unsettled you.

Like Choux said most people can see right through a compulsive liar and just say uhuhmmm just to play along cause they don't want to challenge you at what you say cause they don't want to hurt your feelings.
You need to figure out how to stop before it snowballs out of control and the lies catch up to you and you have to eat your words.

Complulsive lying is due to a lack of being able to express ones creativity. My advie. Start wrighting. Join a drama club or something. You have all this creativness bottled up insed and no where to put it. Try it. It will hekp you. And yes the above are right, most people know you are completely lying. Take care of it now before your standing at the water cooler at work when you 42 and telling people bizzar crazy things and playing Halo 26 by yourself. Nip it in the butt or take a good look at the first part of 40 year old virgin! Don't do it!

Does your imaginary world give you an escape from the real one? Is there something about your true self that you are unhappy with?
Perhaps you are becoming aware of a special affinity you have toward acting? As with any talent, you can use it for good or bad. Choose carefully.

Yes you have a problem. Yes people KNOW you lie. Get real and stop it, or go to drama class and make use of your "characterisations"

I don't want to make you feel upset, but it seems there should be something wrong with you! Why you do that? For what? If you want to get your parents' attention, you can do other things, to be kind and love them, do good in school which is really important as you should be student right now, they will be happy and proud of you and love you more! If you want to be different from your friends,classmates... try to be kind, trustful, honest,be a real friend to them, don't do something which will hurt others,if not you never can't get a real friendship! I think to be honest can make you feel more happier than to lie to others! Please go to see consultant,or talk with your parents, teachers or friends as this is really important for your grow-up!
Do the right thing which can make you feel really happy! Good luck!

I used to lie a lot. Now I only lie when it benefits me ;)
