Hi,
I have a cat who is almost 2. We moved last weekend and she has stayed hiding behind a bathtub in an unfished wall in the basement.
I can not see her to grab her, and she is so scared she will not come out. I will put food out and at some point she eats it, but will not come out if I am around. Poor little thing is scared to death!! I have used a lamp to look and I Can not see her, I have pushed a hockey stick around both sides and she doesn't budge or make a sound but she is coming out to eat food.
Today is my last day, I have to get out her out, I don't want the landlord to be there cleaning this week and have her there still!
PLEASE HELP!

You could try to put the food in a pet carrier and when she goes in close the door. It will take a lot of patience on your part. But, you can not really leave her there.
Good luck.

I have tried that as well. But she does not like her carrier.
I will be there tonight for as long as it takes to get her.
She is just so scared and I WILL NOT LEAVE her!!

It is amazing where cats can go. If she has found an "in" with the unfinished wall, she could be exploring the house and that's why she can't seem to be found when you go looking.
We had a cat once that was really an outside cat - she would sleep in our garage. Well, we were moving and found a new home for her. Our friends were coming over to get her the morning we left. When they got there, she was no where to be found. They kept checking on her and couldn't find her. We had left the garage door opened (so they could get her and her stuff). She had jumped up and the ceiling wasn't finished - somehow got inside the house where the landlord found her. INSIDE! I couldn't believe it.
You may have to hang out in the tub, until she comes out. You could invest in some cans of tuna to lure her out.

She is under the bathtub behind an unsinished wall in the laundry room.
I have done tuna 3 times. The 2nd time I left it for her, she finally came out and when I moves something over the hole, she freaked out squeezed back where she was.
I am hoping tonight will be better. I have everything covered up and have the perfect size board to cover the opening to under the bathtub.
I wasn't sure that she was even there yesterday, as my landlords were there on Friday... but she ate the food I left for her.

How do you think your landlord would feel about knowing she is there - if you can't get her out tonight?
Is there a door to the bathroom? Could you put the food outside of the door and then close the door when she comes out?

They know she is there and are OK with it, but I just need to go her out.
The entrance she gets through is on the wall, which is where the plumbing is behind the bathtubm they never finished the dry wall. There is not a door that I can close or any way to trap her... I just have to wait.

Is there anything else that could be frightening her? Did she start this when you started packing? Or actually moving stuff out?
I would move the dish farther away from the entrance of wherever she is going. Maybe try to put very little in that dish, maybe some tuna juice - but just a taste and then put another bowl a few feet away with a little more and coax her out that way.

I didn't think to transport her before we started moving.
All the noise scared her and she hid that day, which was the 8th, so she has been there for over a week by herself.

I think she is exploring. She may not be a scared as you think. But, I agree, you can't leave her there.

There really isn't room to explore, I do know she comes out, because I found some poop in the upstairs bedroom.
My plan is to sit there tonight for as long as it takes, and I am not leaving without her.
She is my baby, I got her when she was 8 weeks old and she is almost 2 now, there is no way I will leave her. I was in tears on Saturday when I never heard he meowing and couldn't see her. THought the landlords let her out or that she had died back there.
BUt I left some food for her, which was gone when I went back the next day.
I just wanted to some tips on things to use to lure her out.

Is there anyway that you could get a live animal trap,a small one and sit it right in front of where she has to come out.Cover the cage with a blanket to make it less threatening to her.Bait it with her favorite food and make sure it is set correctly.I've caught plenty of cats this way when I was a shelter manager.Maybe you could contact your local shelter to help you. Please keep us informed.. You're in my thoughts.. good luck!

Hopefully by now she is out. I know it is a little late for me to be chiming in. If you can't find this helpful maybe someone else will.
I would have left her out some water and withheld the food all day, maybe that night shown up with some tuna.. if that did not work I would have waited a fulll 24 hours then come in with the food. Also I would have gotten a toy and dangle it in front of the tub... her natural curisoty may get her out enough to grab her, actually it would be better to play with her until she was all the way out and so engrossed in the toy that you can safely get her. Maybe a mouse, hamster in a cage... I know it sounds horrible but just make sure she can't get to them. This might lure her out. If you knew someone that had one willing to let you use it. Try cat nip sprinkle it away from the tub. Maybe just sit and relax read a book and let her come to you... play some music in the other room softly so she will get a sense of what it used to be like. Wow, even do the cleaning up. If she hears normal daily activities she may think it is safe to come out.
