Hello everyone... I need serious help and any one who answers would kindly be appreciated... I finished my periods last 2weeks... I had a normal flow, and everything was fine. Normally the days are between 8-9, but this time it took 6 days, this is not the worry. My concern is that a few days after (which I had normal secretions then), my discharge becomes light pinkish- light brownish to the normal clear discharge. And the amount was "slightly" more than usual. I thought this normal so I didn't concern myself much. After few more days the discharge becomes darker... and now its very dark brown... its been three days since this dark discharge, and I don't think its blood clot or anything (cos if it were blood there would be a hint of iron smell, right?? )... ive read many similar cases, but they normally relate it to pregnancy or due to sexual contact. I'm not having any sexual relationships, nor am I pregnant either. I'm really worried and if anyone has any idea what this could be it would be really helpful...

I have had this problem as well. I went and saw a doctor about it and although I cannot say because I am NOT a doctor this is what he told me and I had very similar symptoms. I received an exam and was told that I was bleeding (just like your period) however when blood is dark brown like you said it means it is old blood. The causes I was told can be from not taking birth control at the same time everyday (waiting too long to take it... like a couple hours later than normal or taking it too late in the evening) Stress can also trigger breakthrough bleeding what in reality is essentially what I think you may have. Unfortunately as I was told, it can take as long as the amount of time to your next period to clear up. Frustrating yes... very annoying as well. The other cause is pregnancy but clearly that's not an issue as you have stated.

So don't worry so much - if it has NOT gone away after your next period then I highly recommend seeing a doctor.
