My neighbors lights shine "on" my house, and illuminate my back yard at night. Their driveway is parallel to my bedrooms. I have asked them to turn the lights off at night, and even offered to have security lights installed on their house, at my expense in order to prevent light from coming into my bedrooms. The lights are a nuisance, and in my opinion violate my right to pursuit of happiness by getting a good night sleep. They had one light they would not alter, and have now installed another, that shines directly on my house. Help. Oh, and by the way, he is a Civil Rights Attorney for the Government.

I doubt you have any recourse, buy better shades and curtains, that will keep light out, they make them that will keep direct sun out

I don't know if you want to fight over this in court, or if you would even win if you tried.
You have already tried to reason with the guy, and that seems to have gotten you no further ahead.

The shades idea is a good idea, or you could check into lighting retrictions in your neighborhood that might exist, such as some places also have noise ordinances.

If you want another idea that amounts to fighting fire with fire, how about purchasing an even brighter light such as a hunter's spotlight or series of them to shine toward his house?

A lot of expense, I know, and not nice, but it is your decision and you have to live next to the guy.
