How much swelling should I expect after having my tongue pierced?

Your tongue is going to swell about 1/4 - 1/2 larger than its normal size. Eat a lot of ice, popsicles, etc. and take ibuprofen, and the swelling should be minimal and shouldn't last very long either. :)

Ugh, that's the worst part about a tongue peircing. '
The actual peircing is pretty painless, but the swelling is a . Mine last all weekend (I got it done on a Friday after school) and I could talk normal on Sunday.. I was the only one who could tell it was still a bit swollen.. if you have a long tounge/big tongue you will be more prone to swelling

Idk. I thinkim going to have them pierce it closer to the tip it's supposed to cut down on swelling. My mom said I should wait to get it done until my xmas break -starts friday- that way I wouldn't have to worry aobut school

Getting it done during Christmas break is a good idea. It will give your tongue a little bit of time to start to get back to normal before you have to go back to school.
No matter where you get it pierced, its still going to swell, I just wanted to let you know that. It's a wound to your body, and wounds swell. I really wouldn't recommend getting it pierced at the tip of your tongue because you will have more problems with speech and chipped teeth in the future. Of course you can get it pierced there if you want to, but I thought I should at least warn you first. Good luck and let us know how it goes! :)

As far as the swelling, everyone that posted is correct... it will swell and it will hurt, so I really have nothing to add there :p
But I would not suggest to trying to get it pierced closer to the tip.
I had my tongue pierced, then about a year later added a second one. So obviously the second one had to be placed in front of the first one and closer to the tip. It clicked my teeth every time I talked... even after it healed. I ended up taking it out and now I just have one.
My husband has a double as well, and his first barbell always hits his teeth. And about once every six months it hurts him a little and he has to take it out and start rinsing with diluted mouthwash... I'm guessing because it keeps hitting his teeth and it's causing irritation to the piercing.

Well I got it done 2 days after xmas and it went great I got it a little past the half way point on my tongue. I will say this it hurt but it wasn't excruitiating. But it did itch after a few days. It didn't get infected though, my mom is still kicking herself for letting me get it done but I love it and so does my boyfriend ;] haha. Anyway I've been using enamel protection toothpaste since I was told the piercing wears away big time on your enamel but it's been about 1/2 a month and it's going good. I was able to talk normally through the whole healing process THANK GOD! And the swelling was well bad lol.
