When I turn on the PC all works fine but suddenly in the middle of something my monitor (only) will just turn off (black screen) with no power. CPU fan and power supply are running what would be the problem.. :(
Thanks...

Hi,
Do you use XP?
If so, you can check your Power settings as follows; some of these steps might be a little different for you, but here are the basic steps:
Right click anywhere on the desktop, then left click on Properties.
Left click on the Screen Saver tab.
Then, left click on the Power button.
Left click on the Power Schemes tab.
Then, look to see if the Monitor has been set to be turned off after a certain period. If so, you can change it, click on Apply and OK.
Also, here is a link with some great pictures of another way to get to it.
http://helpdesk.nus.edu.sg/support/user/guides/power/win2k.htm
Even though the link says "win2k" for windows 2000, it's also for XP.
I hope this helps you, and if not, please post back.

Can you get your hands on another video card that you can swap as a test?

HI,
Here is a copy and paste from fonerbooks.com.
"Assuming the system power comes up, does the monitor power come on? Most monitors have a status LED on the front bezel that should show green, orange, or blinking if the monitor is powered on. You can also hear most monitors power on with a gentle sound, though I can't describe it beyond saying it's the sound of a CRT tube warming up. Make sure the monitor is plugged into a good outlet by testing the outlet with a lamp or any other device that will prove beyond a doubt that the outlet is good. Make sure that the power cord is either permanently attached at the monitor end or that it is seated fully in the socket, since partial cord insertion is the most common failure for monitors with detachable cords.
LCD displays don't make any sound when you turn them on, but they don't have a simple power cord, either. LCD monitors are usually powered by an external transformer, which in turn is powered from a regular AC outlet. If the LCD display doesn't show any signs of life, make sure that the cords into and out of the transformer are fully seated. Some transformers are equipped with a status LED to show when they are operating, though you can also check for live output with a DC voltmeter. The power connection to the LCD display is often awkward to inspect, recessed into the back of the display. The important thing is to make sure it is started correctly, then seated all the way."
This could take some troubleshooting. As the above says, be sure your monitor is plugged into a good electrical outlet, or your surge protector. Make sure there is power coming into it.
Make sure the monitor is firmly plugged into the back of the computer.
As another stated, it could be a video card problem.
Check for all the connections above, and if that isn't the problem, please post back. Also, can you hook up the monitor to another computer? See if it works with that one?

Hey Balot
I had a similar monitor problem with a clients PC. It turned out to be bad capacitors on the motherboard that would cause the monitor to blank out at any given time, no rhyme or reason. Very frustrating. The PC in question is a DEll GX270, but they are used in other sytems as well from different manufacturers.
Let me know the make of your system and also take a closer look at your mobo to see if the capacitors are leaking or bulging(they will bulge from the top which should be perfectly flat). They will be the gold and black ones with an X on top. Hope this helps.
