Perhaps it is concerning some kind of surrogate replacement for another entity that a child might have? I am confused also by the question that has been asked.

I was thinking a baby doll... my 2yo still carries one, and it drives my hubby nuts. I try to explain that this is just a "stage" and doesn't mean anything... but it still hurts daddy's ego

A baby doll may be the thing about which the original poster is asking. We will just have to see when amy-harding returns to answer to our inquiries.

A dummy is also known as a pacifier. He really should have given this up a long time ago. Pacifiers can cause speech problems.
It's not going to be easy, but it has to go at this age.

Yes, I agree... mine gave his up at 1.. I was so thankful (I was a thumb sucker well into my teens). Just throw them away... that's what we did. If they aren't there, he can'y have it :)

Try telling him he is a big boy now, time to throw them away, let him do it himself, and then take the trash all the away out to the BIG trash can.
He can understand it better that way. I babysit a baby and that is what I did for his mom just a few months ago, you think they won't survive, but it only took a few days and he was fine! You can do it! Have faith in yourself and him! Goo mama go!
