My boyfriends mom gives our dog and her dog Benadryl 2x a day and 2 pills eachtime... for a total of 4 pills a DAY!! Is that healthy? Will it cause our dogs to get sick? I'm very worried about our dogs!

Sakura, unless your bf's mother knows that your dog and her dog are suffering from allergies and has spoken with a vet regarding dosage, this is not a good idea. Vets do advise using Benedryl when a dog suffers from allergies and there is a specified dosage that should be followed based upon the weight of the dog. But, if she is giving the pills to aid with the itchy ears that you posted about on the other thread, although Benadryl does relieve itching, without knowing the cause of a problem, it is never wise to give medication to pets or people. Find out the cause, then treat with the appropriate meds. I have a 60 lb dog that suffers from seasonal allergies. Depending on the severity of the reaction, if it is a very bad day for her, I never give her more than two Benadryls a day, one in the morning, one in the evening. But, I don't give them to her on a regular basis, ever. Just on the days she requires it and I start with half a pill, then increase if needed.

While Benadryl is fairly safe, RubyPitbull knows dogs well and what she is saying about talking to the vet is correct.
