I am going to attend an interview at British Gas for the customer service advisor role and have been told that I have to do an assessment, as well as role play. Does anyone know what the role play assessment entails of? And also what type of questions they ask as it has been 10 yrs since I last attended an interview

The interviewer will likely present you with a scenario that is common in the business and ask you to role play to handle the situation. They will likely ask you questions relative to your experience, your integrity, your ability to be a team player, and they will be looking for flashpoints: what points would likely trigger a negative response from you. They will be particularly interested in seeing at which point you would feel the need to bring in a manager.
Good luck!
