One of our vehicles sits outside during the winter and we use the spray windshield de-icer to clear the windshield early in the morning.

Question: What are the ingredients in the commercial de-icer? What home-made mixture could we concoct to do the same job? We realize the mixture must be paint friendly. Would alcohol and water work? Please advise.

Thanks.

You can try this. To prevent your car's windows/mirrors from icing up... treat the windows before you go to bed each night. The window treatment can be made up of 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water and placed in a spray bottle... [and] will prevent ice from forming. I have heard rubbing alcohol can be substituted for vinegar.

I'll give that a try using a little vinegar. Thanks for your input.
