I remember watching a film many years ago about a family who crash a plane (I think) in a rain forest/tropical island and they start to fend for themselves I remember then making a big freezer to make ice but I can't remember the name of it if your can help I would be very grateful.

There's no plane crash in it, but the ice making machine sure sounds like The Mosquito Coast:
