Hi,
I need to replace the washer on my shower faucet. It is a single handle faucet, and I need advice/instruction on how to fix this problem; water continues to drip when turned off.

Any help is appreciated.

What's the brand name of your faucet? How old? (sorry plumberman! I added on to your question. He alreadytold you what type it was. Now we need to know what exactly he has.)

Most brands are about the same. Shut the water off. Pop off the cap on the knob, unscrew the screw, and pull off the knob, and unscrew the nut holding the cartridge. Take the old cartridge to a good hardware store, Ace, Top Value, not Lowe's. A good hardware store will have your cartridge and somebody to help you find it.
