I am trying to understand how long Workers compensation will pay me after my injury. I also am now qualified to apply for social security disability (1 year after the accident) and am still on a sick leave draw from my employer. I feel there is a definite beneficial order to all these things and am having trouble figuring this out. A workers comp lawyer told me to file for ss benefits now, but I have a feeling this may be because it is somehow tied to how he gets paid since the ss office I spoke with told me that workers comp pays me more than ssdisability and that these two federal programs will "offset" each other.
Currntly: I receive full pay due to a sick leave bank. Will be good until June 2008
I can take an early retirement pension from the state. Disability. In the event I do not get better.
I qualify for the maximum workers comp (still below my wages) but will have no benefits for health ins if this occurs.
I am still being treated (head injury at work) but have continued to make progress. Recent BPPV has apparently cleared up, yet issues remain, so testing is scheduled to figure it out.
Additionally, I have some Income Protection insurance from Hartford. Just got the application. Difficult to understand.
I need a knowledgeable advocate to look at all this and guide me through this process as the workers comp always feels adversarial.
