I was recently a victim of identification fraud. How often should I put an "alert" on to the credit reporting companies. Also every time I get a recent copy of my credit report doesn't that hurt my credit(better known as an inquiry). Please help.

The best service I have seen is the ID Theft Shield. I have never seen a comprehensive program that covers a WHOLE HOUSEHOLD for $9.95 a month including the $25,000 identity theft restoration insurance. They also allow no contract, monthly payments... And the provider is a private investigation national firm that actually helps you track down and prosecute the individuals repsoinsible. I don't think anyone can beat that.

If you need details, I can provide them. That's what I use. However, you need to alert them in writing so they can put it on your report for 6 months. What exactly happened?
