Is this a crime? What can be done?

Yes it is, you call your local police, the larger ones have a cyber crime division. They trace the email if possible. You would be surprised how many people can be traced.

Take it seriously and get the police involved! Save the evidence and don't mess around with waiting before you call!

It wasn't to me, it was to a friend of mine, and she knows who sent it... just not from where, but we know where to find him... thank you

There is new Federal Internet stalking legislation - I found it at Cybertelecom/Cyberstalking. I don't know if 1 e-mail would constitute stalking but also aren't sure if the local Police will get involved, death threat or not.

I believed if you treath someone via e-mail might fall into a felony it depends if the DA wants to proceed, if there was any intent to committ what was said.

What s/he said was that s/he believes that a threat to someone via e-mail might be in the felony category. It also depends on the district attorney and if the DA feels that there is any need to prosecute due to the content of the e-mail.
