I am six months behind in my credit card payments. I own nothing and have no saved money-due to unfortunate circumstances over the past year. I am being threatened by an attorney's office that I will be sued and my-poor, pitiful-wages will be garnished. Does any one know if this is true?

Hello family:

Depending on your state, I'm afraid it's true. Only Texas and a few more don't allow garnishment.

If you can negotiate any kind of settlement, I certainly would try. Depending on how old the debt is, you might be able to settle for $.50 on the dollar - maybe less. And, you won't have legal fees and court costs added on.

In many states they can, in some they can not, in others they can but a certain amount is exempt. For example where I live they can get 25 percent of the check.
