Hello,
I recently moved into a house and have been finding that in the middle of the night when I get up to do things such as make my baby a bottle I use the downstairs restroomand someone or something locks me in everytime. This only happens in the middle of the night when I am completely alone but it has happened to one of my family members as well, how do I find out if someone died in my house without spending the money to do a title search and all that stuff?

Do you have any other children? And, what do you mean by locks you in? Is there a key in the outside of the door?

I have a 3 year old but he is always fast asleep in his bed upstairs. It is one of those sliding doors that you have to push the door up against the wall and turn the lock while you're holding the door in place. The first night I thought maybe Im just tired but the next couple of times I couldn't give excuses because there is no way I did it.

To be honest, I don't think this is a ghost issue. It's more than possible, that the door is faulty in some way. Try standing on the other side of the door, and continuously opening and shutting it. If it doesn't happen, try locking it. It maybe tricky to lock, but once in place, does it lcok very easily? Late at night, you could be half asleep, it is possible you closed the door harder than normal, triggering the lock mechenism.
As far as a poltergueist, it's doubtable, but possible. If you have tried everything and found the door to be fine, you may wish to fall back on the old spirit board. Mind you, if it is a ghost, and it''s playing tricks on you, it's probably harmless, though slightly irritating. Probably a child. If you find yourself in rather dire surcumstances, or hurt, then there may be reason for fear. If you get locked in your bathroom, or the lights turn off for no reason, it's probably just a child ghost playing pranks, and doesn't realize how scared it makes you. Just talk to it. Who knows, you may have a friend.

Can you hear the lock move into place while you are in the bathroom because as the other post says it is quite possible that closing the door could result in the lock moving into place. If you are interested then have you thought about aiming a video camera at the door for a night and reviewing the footage? Maybe even taking a few photos of the door while in the bathroom?
