Hi out there,

My names Bill and I'd like to know what exactly is involved in changing from a 150 amp
To a 200 amp electrical service? At the moment I have a 150 amp service and would like to upgrade. Does the meter socket box and feed wiring have to be changed?

Thanks, Bill

Yes, the entire service entrance must be rated at least 200 amps. This may include the meter and feeder cable.

However, with the existing service being rated 150 amps, the meter is probably already a 200 amp unit, the feeder cable maybe rated 150 or 200, so it is worth checking the size of the feeder cable.

A residential 200 amp feeder must be a minimum of #2/0 copper or #4/0 aluminum wire.
