I have a Maple Chase SaverStat thermostat on a Lenox heat pump. The thermostat and heat pump are ten years old. Recently when the heat pump comes on the Aux. light on the thermostat also goes on (not the emergency heat light). I have checked and the auxiliary heat strips and they are not heating even when the light is on. This is a new problem. The thermostat has been working during previous heating seasons without the Aux light going on.

Is this a problem with the thermostat or the circuit board on the heat pump? Is it something that should be repaired or can we just look blissfully at the green light?

Maple is a cheap thermostat to begin with. I would look at the thermostat first for a problem.

All that is needed for this problem is a reset. Remove the batteries for 15 minutes and replace them. Everything is going smoothly. In response to previous responder I will have to agree that the workmanship and the functions are not what one might expect for the price I paid 10 years ago ($145) but it has operated for 10 years without a problem so I cannot complain.
