I'm a junior in h.s and we are learning how to chemical equations. We just did a lab and now we have to balance 20 chemical equations. I'm so lost and was wondering if someone could help me out by balancing these chemical equations for me. My lab is due tomorrow and I was unable to stay after for help with my teacher.

I'll try to guide you in the right direction here---

synthesis
for the first 3 of these reactions, you need to combine the two elements and create a compound -- keep in mind the charges on each. For example, Mg + O2 creates MgO (mg has a +2 charge and O has a -2 charge, so they balance out equally)

decomposition
do the opposite of synthesis, break them apart into two or more elements/compounds.

HgO yields Hg and O2 (O2 because it is a diatomic element). Then balance the equation as you normally would

single displacement
the metal atom that is by itself will switch with the cation atom in the compound. Example:
Zn + HCl yields H2 + ZnCl2 (zn switches with H, H becomes H2 because it is diatomic, and ZnCl becaomes ZnCl2 because Zn has a +2 charge and Cl has a -1 charge)

double displacement
have the cation's switch places. For example AgNO3+NaCl yeilds NaNO3 + AgCl

good luck

Fe+S=FeS
Mg+O2=MgO2
Cu+O2=CuO2
2CaO+2H2O=Ca2(OH)2+H2O...
Decomposition
HgO =Hg+O
NaHCO3 =NaOH+CO2
CuSO4+5H2O
Single Displacement
Zn+HCl =ZnCl+H
Zn+CuSO4 =ZnCu+So4
NaBr+Cl2 yeilds___
Ca+H2O yeilds___
Cu+Pb(NO3)2 yeilds___
Double Displacement
AgNO3+NaCl yeilds___
Na2SO3+HCL yeilds___
AlCl3+NH4+OH yeilds___
NaOH+HCl =NaCl+H2O
Na2CO3+2HCl =2NACl+H2CO3... the other equation I will make another day bye bye I did just some that I like because I am a sleepy cos it is new year tonight
