View Full Version : Cartridge Replacement caused Banging Pipes!

Hello,

I recently replaced a leaky cartridge in one of my showers. It has a Moen single handle shower faucet, and I used an OEM replacement. The leak was solved, and the shower worked perfectly for about two weeks. Now, suddenly, the pipes bang whenever I turn on that shower. I can turn it on a little (about 45 degrees of a full circle), but beyond that the banging begins and the pressure drops substantially. All of the other faucets in the house work normally.

From what I know about the operation of the faucet, I suspect that the cold water is coming through properly and it's the hot water causing the problem.

Most of the internet searching I have done has led to water hammer, but I do not think that is my problem as it seems to occur upon shutting off the water flow, whereas my issue happens only while the water is actually running.

Any thoughts?

You should go back and reinstall the cartridge. I believe it is not properly inserted into the mixer body. Just double check your work.
