I have a mazda protégé that seems to be problematic lately. While driving on the highway the engine light blinks. The car speed starts to slow down even when I press on the gas pedal (the engine races but would not help the speed). Brought to mechanics and couldn't find the problem-indicated everything seems to be OK. Had the same problem last week. While the car is slowing down, the engine will race but no effect on speed (is that clutch problem?) Brought to mechanics, couldn't id anything but suggested to start changing parts, starting with the coil. What is your thought?

Thanks

Check for codes--AutoZone will do this for free, if it's a 1996 or later model Mazda.

Yes need more info on car, engine, transmission type please. Engine racing seems like spark is still good to go, lets get more info. When does it seem to happen, only when car warms up, on humid days, can you give any additional info please.
