Does anyone know of any good resources for practical information about gay couples who are interested in the possibility of adoption? My partner and I are exploring our options at the moment, and would like to learn more about the requirements for adoption?

Is there a financial/income requirement we should be preparing for? How long is the process typically? Is it necessary to obtain a lawyer to work with us?

We are also considering artificial insemination as a possibility, so I'd also like to know some basics about second parent adoption and what the requirements/procedure is for that as well.

Any info, or even links to good websites would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I would suggest artificial insemination as this process would likely be much more quick.

But on the other hand there are children that need parents. Go look on adoption (http://www.youradoptions.com) for some more info.

Adoptions very first from county to county, ( not sure where you live) and if in the US from state to state. There is stiill issues in some areas for lesbians to adopt, if not officially still by many officials.

You also have the difference between a private adoption, and one though a state agency. There will be books of rules, income guidelines, home inspection, requirements on bedroom space, home living space and so on.

I would say that I would have an use an attorney if it was me

Fourteen years ago my lesbian sil adopted a newborn boy, private adoption. The adoption was in CO and had to be in only my sil's name, as a single mother. The papers do not include her long-time partner's name.

It's unfortunate but your sexual orientation might be a hindrance. I think private adoption is a good idea...
