I have a friend who has within recent months (ever since she got engaged and asked me to be in her wedding) started to call me every day, sometimes twice a day. Though I cherish her friendship and do not want to lose her as a friend, I have a busy schedule, I work two jobs, I have a boyfriend, other friends, and my own family to keep in touch with as well. I am beginning to feel smothered and I feel like I neglect others in my life so that I can keep her happy by talking to her as often as she seems to need to talk. How do I tell her to give me some space without hurting her feelings?

I wouldn't bother telling her anything about 'your space'. She sounds needy and may take that the wrong way. Just don't accept every one of her calls, or if you do say you're busy and you'll get back to her later. Don't invest all your time into her. Do you really even want to be in her wedding? She sounds like she needs some more friends.

Thank you for your response. I do want to be in her wedding because she is a good friend, but I will also create my own space by not returning or answering all calls.
