Photo cells are entirely different animals than what you want. You want Solar Cells.

They generate a DC current depending on light intensity and are strung typically in seriies to generate a large enough voltage for an inverter to operate. An inverted changes DC to AC.
Cells placed in series should have their currents matched. If they are placed in parallel, they nned to be matched tighter.
