Im in honors math Algebra 1... the answer is f(x)=-3x - 8 I think

Something looks wrong there. I don't want to embarrass myself here because your majoring in math from what you said but I believe that your answer is wrong and it should be f(x) = 8 + 3x. Can anyone confirm?

To prevent confusion here the right answer is indeed y=8+3x (or f(x)=8+3x, whichever you prefer).
To find this solution you do the following:
-3x+y=8
add 3x on each side of the equation
y=8+3x
that already is the answer, I don't see any reason to rewrite it as f(x).

Yes that is the answer I said. I was pretty sure I was right but again awesome5 said he is doing his honours in math so that's why I wanted someone to confirm my answer. Also I guess when you do a lot of math you will start writing y as f(x). They're both the same so it really doesn't matter its just the way you prefer.

Rewrite the equation so that y is a function of x
-3x+y=8
you have -3x+y=8
you just write y= first and then -3x got transfer after the = sign so it becomes 3x since 8 is already after = you don't need to change the sign
the answer is y=3x+8

And how is that different from what I and pytrik said?
