Can student loans from 1990 still be collected on? Every few years I get harassing phone calls and the amount owed is said to be 5x the original amount.

Yes, old student loans can still be collected on. My ex had one that was almost 15 years old and when they finally caught up to him, he had to pay. But that 10 years ago, so maybe there are new laws.

I was married in 1992 in Feb, I began school in Sept. I was married for 10 years, the entire time I was in school and the only time I took out student loans from 1992-1994. I don't know if my then husband (now my ex) signed any paperwork, need to find this out I guess, but isn't he also responsible to pay these student loans back. We always got the maximum amount I could get, so my ex and I, and my newborn child could live off them too. I did not work at all and my ex was on disability. So I was the sole provider a lot using my student loans to put food on our table and diapers on my daughter Jennifer. I have not made a payment in 24 years. My ex, he paid the bills, never paid my bills. During our divorce proceedings the judge said "There is a lot of debt here. (most in my name) Mr Reid you are responsible for 1/2 of the debt here, including student loans. How do I get the money from him? He as since come into money. Do I have any legal rights to get the money from hi. Thank you, Kathy J Reid, [email protected]
