I've noticed within the last week that my heat pump will run, but at times, it stops blowing the air through the vents, yet keeps running for a few more minutes. I've also noticed that it turned on once and ran, but not blow any air... just ran for a little while, then shut off. Is this some kind of cycle that it's running? Is this normal? I cannot remember if this was happening last year this season.
Any answers will be greatly appreciated... thanks.

It could be going into the defrost cycle.

So is this normal operation when it goes into defrost cycle? The unit will continue to run after it has stopped blowing air through the vents. And there was one time when it initially turned on, but never blew air through the vents at all... so would this be normal for a defrost cycle?
I'm not too familiar with heat pumps, so any knowledge I learn here will be of great benefit.

Yes it could be normal for the defrost cycle. You might also have a problem with the blower control network signal. Is it heating your home to your satisfaction?

Yes... it seems to give me the heat I require. I set my temperature at 66 degreees.
I have noticed the times when the unit does this... it usually happens first thing in the morning and later in the evening.

If the out side unit is running the inside blower should be running always even if in defrost mode or not. If the blower is not running with the heatpump you may have a bad blower control or blower.

Basically what I noticed this morning is that the unit turned on, blew heat through the vents, then that stopped once it met the temperature, but the unit itself continued to run.
I was curious, so I switched the 'fan' selctor from 'auto' to 'on'. When I did that, the unit stopped and the fan went on. I then returned the fan switch back to 'auto' and the next time the unit turned on to supply heat and did it's cycle, the unit turned off normally.

In regards to the deforst cycle, I don't hear the reversing valve switching back and forth, so I don't think this 'continuous running' is due to the defrost cycle.

I hope that I'm explaining all of this correctly in writing.
