Make sure you uninstall all versions of Yahoo Messenger before you try reinstalling version 9. Are you going through the software uninstall panel in control panels, or through an uninstall program provided by Yahoo (I'm assuming they provide such, I'm not a Yahoo IM user)? Couldn't hurt to try both approaches.
Also, understand that "beta" means they're looking for brave souls to be the first real users to try the product. In general, installing beta software means you understand and are willing to take the risks in using a product that's not 100% guaranteed to be ready for prime time. It may be the beta version is leaving some crud lying around on your C: drive and that's what's confusing the installer.
Why are you trying the beta version? Have you tried 8.1 in Vista and had problems with it? If not, I'd suggest uninstalling 9 and going to 8.1 until 9 is released.

I did all that before I sent question - I finally had to restart in safe and manually delete messenger folder... now I reinstalled 8.1 and it works... but thank you for trying to help :)
