I'am about to purchase a dual core''Hp Pavillion9000 series', it has TV tuner, plenty of ram. But I need to know if I can run vista and xp at the same time, and do I need a separate anti - virus for each one ,one on vista @ one on xp.

Yes but you'll have to partition your hard drive. You'll also probably need separate anti-virus for both but I could be wrong about that.

But it is a dual core system, two different operating systems running at the same time, with extra hard drive built right in...

Oh, well they yes. Still not sure about the antivirus issue though. Probably work for both since it is set-up that way but I'm not positive.

No I don't think so you can make dual boot by emptying two partitions in which one contains xp and another contains vista you can have single antivirus for both. Both os is installed on your hard disk so both of them are files so if you put any antivirus in any os then it will work for both

You CANNOT run two Operating systems at the same time on one machine without running some virtualisation software, such as VMWare.
It is possible to have two OS installed and use them separately, in fact this is quite normal.

My test machine runs Vista Business, XP Pro and Red Hat linux happily.
