Hi guys, I'm 39 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I feel asthough I've tried everything possible to bring labour on but had not luck so far. Ive tried castor oil (Gave me the poops) pineapple, sex, long walks and massages but nothing has worked. Has anyone got any other suggestions? I would really be grateful. REALLY fed up now.

Lacey, your body will go into labor when it is ready. There is nothing, other than sex, that will bring on labor. I'm sorry, and I feel your pain, but the longer this bun is in the oven the healthier it will be when it gets out.

I know honey, I know. I've been through that 4 times. I totally understand where you are coming from. BUT, you want a healthy baby right? You will just have to let the pregnancy run it's course. Unless of course, the doctor is willing to induce. And that is very possible after 39 weeks.
But do you want the added pain of induction?

Yeah I do want a healthy baby, due for a sweep Tuesday if nothing!! Had a lot of pressure down below though no contractions or mucus loss or waters breaking lol

You may not have mucous loss or rupture of your membranes. It doesn't happen with every pregnancy. But you WILL have contractions, and you WILL know when they are here.
You're due for a sweep? I'm sorry I don't know what that is, we don't use that term here in the US. Could you let me know what it is? I like to learn new terminology to use with my patients. I now use jab instead of shot and the kiddos don't get so freaked out. Thanks.

You mean like a pap smear?
Or when they check for GroupB strep?

Lol not too sure where they bring the cervix forward!

Hmm, never heard of that. I was taught that the cervix is immovable other than when it thins and dilates during labor. Would you mind asking your midwife/doctor for me? I would love to know what it is.

Is your doctor considering induction yet? If not, you should discuss the possibility. Late term can run some risks too.

Yah, I am set to be induced Tuesday if nothing happens. I very relaxed knowing the pregnancy will come to an end by a certain date.

Its an internal examination where they sweep your cervix to help bring on labour. I will try and find out in more detail though for you.

Ah, I got you now! Stimulating the cervix like a sweep or even sex, causes th cervix to release a hormone called progesterone that helps to induce labor.
Ahh, thank you for that info :D . I'll remember that one :D!

If it helps any of you feel better... induction may not be all that bad. When I went into labor 5 weeks early, the only thing that happened was my water broke. When I arrived at the hospital I was already 5cm dilated and was having strong contractions. They started pitocin about an hour and a half after being there and I had no pain whatsoever! I only started having pain when my doc manipulated and stretched my cervix. I was stuck at 7cm for several hours due to scar tissue from a surgery, and when the doc "stretched me out" I began to tear. They didn't know it cause my son's head was trying to push past the cervix and was keeping the blood from flowing. So, with any luck you'll be as lucky as I was and won't have any pain. Try to stay patient because they grow so fast. My son is already almost 4 weeks old and is well over a pound more than his birth weight. If none of the things you have tried have brought it on yet I would say your little one isn't quite ready. I bet as soon as you stop trying you will go into labor. Kind of like those of us who were trying to get pregnant and couldn't. As soon as we stopped trying, pregnant! Good luck and let us know when those wonderful little babies get here!

Well I've had my sweep and I'm 1cm dilated so a lot of work to be done, had a little plug loss whilst midwife was doing it and the baby is 2/5 engaged. Had period pains ever since. What's the chances that labour is on its way? Im currently bouncing on my birthing ball!! Lol

You are 40 weeks and 2 days? Have you discussed inducing labor yet? If not, you may want to suggest it. There are quite a few reasons, but I really don't want to concern you with them. But you should be well under way or induced at this point in time.

I'm 40+3 having another sweep tomorrow if nothing happens then they are inducin me on the 28th! What concerns?

It's just that post term babies (those born after 40 weeks) can have problems just as pre-terms can. The majority of the doctors here won't let a gal go to 41 weeks anymore.

Fingers crossed they do something today then! As I have now lost all my mucus plug!

Good job, you lost your mucous plug, that means labor is imminent. Could be a couple of days yet, but I would start pushing for induction if nothing by Wednesday.

Been to the midwife today she has booked me in to be induced for weds! Hopefully something will happen before then!

Let's certainly hope so. Losing of the mucous plug, sometimes called bloody show, means it's going to happen sooner rather than later. I doubt you'll still be pregnant on Wednesday.
Good luck!! I'll be waiting for the great news!!

Fingers crossed I'm really fed up now. Very very moody and tierd today and sick of the calls and texts.

Turn the phone off, don't respond to the texts. Just get some rest, you are really going to need it.

I have done that but still get knocks at the door!! :@ They must think we won't tell them when its happening!! Im actually getting to the stage where I don't want people coming round when I bring her home I just want it to be me my partner and baby!

There is nothing wrong with that. It is your right for the 3 of you to be together at such a special moment.
The hard part is telling them that. Have your boyfriend answer the door and tell them that you are napping or something and that you will call when you get up.

Lets have her first hey ha ha! Just can't wait to have our baby in our arms!

He could be doing that for you now though. Tell them, when they come to the door, that you are napping and will call whenever the time comes and it's time to go to the hospital.

I have told them myself but it doesn't seem to make the slightest bit of a difference!

Nov 22, 2007, 11:48 AM
Nah, it never seems to. Guess now it is time for your guy to step in and tell them that you will call when the time comes and that you need to be left alone to get your rest.
