The person that owns my condo is going to sell our unit on a short sale or go to foreclosure. When I asked him about this several months ago, he said that he was fine and would not go to foreclosure and that I could live here as long as I would like to because this is my home. My lease is up January 05 2008. I just received an email from him telling me to move January 5th because he is selling the place on a short sale. I told him I could not move that quickly as December is my busy month at work and we had visitors coming during the holidays. He said he did not care. What are my rights. I pay on time each month and have been an excellent tenant. Especially when he previously told me not to worry. This has been very stressful. Please help.

You basically have no rights once your lease is up. He's giving you notice to leave once it expires and he has that right. You cannot force him to allow you to stay there beyond your lease term.

At the end of the lease they do not have to re-new. The options are go to a month to month rental ( if landlord agrees) renew the lease (if landlord agrees) or move. You will have to move or they can merely have you evicted.
