I see there are a few questions on this one, but mine seems simple. I have Red, Yellow, Green and White leads from the old Thermostat. I have no idea where to place the leads, in the channels under the screws or the channels on top. My leads do not reach from out of the wall to go under, and if it can be wired in the top channels, what do I do with the red "jumper". Just jam the red lead in with it?

Thanks!

Not sure what you mean by channels. Are they some sort of shortcut to avoid fiddling with hooking wires over screws? If the new thermostat has the W, Y, and G terminals, connect the white, yellow and green wires. If it has RH and RC, connect the red to one, and jumper it to the other. If it has a B or C terminal, you may need a fifth wire running from a similar terminal at the furnace to power the thermostat.

Thanks for the reply. The channels are slots, that you can push the stripped wire into and then tighten the screws to hold in place. There are is a slot above and below the Y, W etc. The screws are too small to wrap the wire around, but rather serve as the way to tighten. That is why it is a bit confusing.

The jumper is in the two Red slots that are above the screws and the screws are tightened. So any idea where would the red feed would go?

Thanks Again!

As a side note, would it be so hard for Honeywell to print a picture of how it is supposed to look?

Between your question and some others here recently, I am concluding Honeywell is DIY unfriendly. I have heard in some states it is hard to even buy any HVAC parts. Where they can't restrict the sale of their products, they may make it hard for anybody that hasn't been to their dealer training to install them. Next time I am in Lowe's, I may look around at thermostats and try to see what you are talking about. I have better luck nibbing around at stuff at Lowe's without having somebody come and want to help me. ''Well no, I have no intention of buying one, I am just want to learn enough to help people on the net.'' Don't like Honeywell's Fram oil fitlers either.

Does the new thermostat follow the W, Y, G terminal markings? If you have access below, you may be able to push up a little more cable to make connections easier. If there seems to be more than one place to connect the wires, you could verify that either will work by checking for conductivity with an ohm meter. I would thing it would make any difference connecting the red wire to RH or RC as long as they are jumpered. Just loosen a screw and push the wire in beside the jumper wire.

My wife installed it yesterday before I got home. It seemed to work using the slots on top. Appreciate the help!
