I am 16 years old and am wanting a car. I have the money to buy one but my mom doesn't wan't to put her name on the contract with me. Could my aunt who is not my legal guardian buy a car in her name, I give her the money for it, and have her put me on her insurance as a secondary driver?

You mom can merely stop you from using it, and force your aunt to take it back. Your aunt should be ashamed of herself even thinking of over riding your moms choice.

And your aunt is stupid also since if it is in her name, she has to list you as a driver and all of her car insurance will go way up in price. Also when you have a wreck, her insurance will go up again.

But I could buy a car in my name and let you use it, but most adults would be smarter than to do that.

But again, you mom can just order you not to drive it, and have it towed from her property if you parked it there without her permission

Since you are not a member of her household, probably not.

It would have to be okay with your mother and the insurance company. And one thing Fr chuck has right her insurance would go up if you wreck.

You can list drivers who are not in your household as secondary drivers in NYS -
