I am a member of an organization in Colorado that currently operates under a 501(c)(7) status. We are discussing changing it to a 501(c)(3) so that we may do more fundraising and be able to receive a tax-deductible donations. We are not incorporated at this time, but do have by-laws that we operate under. Where do we start?

As a non for profit you must be absolutely positive that you are in compliance with Federal and State laws, including IRS Regs, and I would suggest you contact an Attorney and go from there. A small mistake can come back and haunt you!
