View Full Version : Skin lightner for African/African American/Black people?
Amina

Ok I am fairly new on this site and I am having a hard time figuring out what race is everyone. I am not trying to racist or anything. What works on other races doesn't work on black people and vice versa... With that being said...
Hi, Im Amina. I was a mid brown color. Before going to college I hardly went outside (overprotective mother needed to know where her children were at all time  ). So I did not know anything about sunscreen lotion. Now I am 4 shade darker than my usual color. Though I love my dark skin it just feels weird looking at pictures of my lighter skin vs now. I was wondering if anyone know of a product that works. I just want my mid brown skin color back.

I have no personal knowledge of this but I read some encouraging testimonials from African-American customers of Godiva in www.godivaskincare.com. Could be worth a try. Check the website.

I personally don't think Godiva works. I bought the whole system, 2 large bottles each of their lotion, 2 bars of their soap,2 of their whitening cream, deodorant, lip gloss. The works & it never had ANY effect. It is a waste of good money.

Hi,
How much money did Michael Jackson spend on getting a lighter skin color? Not to mention the funny nose.
If these skin products really worked, someone would know definitely that they do and what the product name is.
These manufacturers' want to sell their product, and if one buys it, just one time, with many, many people "dooped" into buying them, just one time, they have made a lot of money... which is their purpose.
You might consider seeing a Dermotologist, and getting a Professional opinion on what to do. I do wish you the very best of luck.

Amina, I would like to say I really agree with your comment about what works on some Black may not work on other Blacks. However, a few years ago I used a Tone Skin (Esoteria Cream/ night and day) product that may be purchased in Walgreens, RiteAid, or Walmart etc. The only advice I would say about using the product is you have to reduce the usage of the cream as you retrive the complexion you desire, which means you would need to reduce using the product to 1 once a week to every other week to once a month.
In regards to Ethnicity, I am Black. However, I perfer to be considered as an (Afro-West Indian American). See pics @ BLACKPEOPLEMEET.COM

So what is this glutathione regimen?
I am currently taking 2000-3000mg glutathione per day with 2000mg Vitamin C. I think it is fairly okay though if you want extreme lightening, I do not think it will do the work. 2-3 shades lighter only

2-3 shades lighter would be great :D (don't want to be too light ;) ). Now is this permanent or do I have to keep taking it to keep the light complexion? Did you change your eating habit, water intake, or anything else? How soon did you see results? (I hope this isn't too much questioning :( )

So far, I did not change any old habits(except added some pills & tablets with meals) & I saw changes in less than a month. I don't know yet if I will go back to my original color once I stopped. But I was thinking of taking it for maintenance.

Its healthy... its an anti-oxidant that when taken in high dosage, you will get whiter skin as the side effect... but no harsh side effects other than skin whitening... and of course healthier body, basically, you have to take it as directed because when you would take less, your skin condition will improve but you ma not achieve the desired whitening...

Hi All! I just wanted to say hello because I just found this sight. I belong to a few other online groups and you can alwys find some new info!
Anyway, I have just now placed an order for monobenzone (benoquin). I have seen it's effects on other boards, with documented photo proof. I will be taking pictures of various parts of my body from the beginning to the end of my journey. I will not be using it alone. One of the people that has used it an achieved great results has posted a "recipe" of sorts, mixing it with water and lotion.
Feel free to ask me any questions if I do not answer them when I post my results.
Oh, just to let you know, I have tried the Hypercreme Extratone B (on my body)and it did nothing for me. I used the Godiva fruit acid on my face and it did seem to help. I used that with the perfectcomplexion.net TCA/crystals blend. I am mixed race, so I am naturally a light caramel color. However, I live in Los Angeles and tan very easily (my father is VERY dark). I would just like to be my natural color from top to bottom.

She's on one of the boards that I am on. So is another person that has used the same product, but did it in a mix and he has a more pink tone to his skin. I do not want exactly to be white, but I have considered that possibility. It is possible to use a self-tanner to go up a few shades from that, which is easier than going down a few shades. Right now I look like a patchwork Raggedy Anne of brown and I'd rather just be one color, no matter what it is.

It is this cream called ULTRA GLOW. The women of color really used this a lot back in the 50's and 60's because "light skinned" was the thing to be back then. Remember what ever you do to your face, you must do it to your neck and your ears too. It would look strange with a light complextioned face and dark neck and ears. This stuff really does work.

Yeah I'd like to know also where you buy this Ultra Glow cream, I've never heard of it.
I do know that if you want to lighten DON'T use Jergens Natural Glow because it has DHA, and that makes you produce more melanin... which makes u tan.

Ultra Glow does not work. Trust me, I am around Nia Long's complexion, and all it did was make my skin very thin, and red looking. Yes, I am African American.
Back in the day, a lot of those over the counter bleaching creams that are still sold at the local pharmacy used to actually work. My dad grew up during the whole bleaching cream phase, and a lot of blacks were getting light. I'm sure Ultra Glow probably worked in the 60s--but due to a lot of health concerns they reduced, or completed erased the main ingredient that made the product work.
To be truthfully honest, as a black person you are not going to get THAT light. If you find something that truly works, the lightest you're going to get is maybe 1-2 shades, maybe 2.5 during the winter, with a very even complexion. And with that being said, you're still going to be dark/brown. Just a lighter shade of dark/brown. And another thing, most of these creams are not going to be that effective either; I say this because a lot of posters have really high expectations of being completely 'white'. They're also not going to be permanent; do you really think the company is going to make something that's going to cause you not to be at their mercy once you're through with that little jar or tube of whitening cream? Please, they want to continue to get your money for as long as they're in business. That's how it works. Unless you go to a high end dermatologists who wants thousands of dollars.
I'm assuming that a lot of the posters who claim to have gotten 5 and 6 shades lighter, were already very light, or possibly of a mixed race around a Halle Berryish shade. Their skin texture is different, and can easily switch between being tannish brown, and very very light with the right products.
And I have yet to see a Black celebrity who went from dark to light. (Please don't mention Michael Jackson), most of them look like they use very expensive chemical peels, and acne treatments that contain some form of a lightening agent in it. Take Eddie Murphy, yeah he was a bit darker earlier in his career--but now it just looks as though he probably uses a expensive skin care treatment to even out his skin tone--he is still DARK. Chris Rock as well. And let's not forget that both male and female celebrities where theatrical makeup which makes them look lighter. That's why their skin tones vary so much.
Just play around with different skin creams and see which ones work best for you. Hopefully, you'll find something really cheap because you'll really set yourself up for failure if you go around buying some expensive lightening cream that works, and a time will come (trust me it will) when you can't afford it, and BOOM you're dark again.

Am new to this site. But not new to browsing skin lightening product. Am an african with mid brown complexion and what really bugs me is that I have so many different skin tones on my body. My face, inner arms and thighs are light, my neck, back, upperarms and legs are dark. Am looking for a PRODUCT THAT WORKS AND IS SAFE to even out my skin tone and to make me 2,3-4 shades lighter. If there is any dark-skinned individual who has tried a product that really worked, whether pill or cream, please give some advise. And don't tell me to accept myself because I've tried to but it doesn't work. I'll accept myself when I look in the mirror and like myself. But thanks, not all of us are strong.

You could try Vitamin C. I heard that works really well as far as evening out the complexion and making it brighter. Why to some people that's not good enough? Don't know why.
There are a lot of products around here being thrown around, so just do a search and you can try some of them.
But don't expect any of these creams to be drastic; all they do is make you a shade or 2 lighter, with an even complexion. Please just give up on the dream of being 4 shades lighter, its not very realistic at all. And don't spend the rest of your life trying to be something you're not. Trust me, I used to frequent a lot of skin lightening forums, and I'm just now coming back to them, and the same people are STILL in search of the perfect skin lightening cream.

Whysodark, I truly understand your comment about your skin being different because my skin tone is the same and I think its because of the Native American blood because I have a twin sister and she is the complexion of Montel Williams. However, my skin is a dark red complexion and I am not sure, but when I am in the sun my arms never darken, but my arms turn red and if I get a facial my skin turns red. Oh yeah this helped all right :) "brownsugar", THANK-YOU. It really looks like this benoquin thing works.
But after researching it, I definitely DONT recommend people use it. And if anyone does decide they want to use it, I advise you read ALL posts from www.monobenzone.com
 It's a very scary thing to go through... and sometimes painful to maintain... plus its permanent. Once you use it, you can't go back, you may end up with white spots all over your body for around 3 yrs until you can finally attain Latoya's whole complexion change. And then you have to maintain it for the rest of your life too (and if you don't, you may develop dark patches all over your body). I would rather stick with my complexion than go through all that.
Sorry if I'm sort of exaggerating, but I just want to make sure people know.

Hi,
I don't think the pills will work showing miracles of lightening the skin. The photo given in the links posted by Brownsugar seems funny. The photo before is taken in a place where there was much less light than the photo of after use (he is already a fair person). The photo after is more close up with more light which will of course give a clear photo. Now a days you can change the color of any photos with softwares like adobe photoshop. If the person took the photos is really telling the truth he should have shown the photos with the same pixel, the same lighting and close up(before and after).

Ok! No amount of photo manipulation can make that kind of change in skin tone, no matter what software you use. This guy used monobenzone from depig.com, if you don't believe me go ask him yourself he's a moderator on this forum(http://www.monobenzone.com), and he explain to everyone the process of how he depigmanted his skin with monobenzone.
Monobenzone is a highley potent cream that completely depigments the skin to the point where there is no more melanin in the skin. I don't know if you saw my previouse post mentioning Latoya Wilson ( an african ameriacan girl who's skin is completely white now because she used monobenzone. If you didn't here's her pictures

http://excoboard.com/forums/11263/user/104869/143889.jpg
No can you honestly say those pictures were a product of some advanced photo software manipulating the color of her skin I think not, she explains on the Bright Skin forum on Yahoo that she used a high concentration of monobenzone, and it took her three years to achieve that result in the end.

entity33 if you had bothered to read my previous posts then you would not have made this complete and false accusation of me trying to "persuade people into using monobenzone". I have always stated my position on the use of monobenzone and that is that I believe its going to the extreme in skin whiting this of course is only in my opinion and I have always emphasised that. Also concerning Latoya Wilson I have never used her to backup any ridiculous claims I supposedly made, I don't understand what your trying to make me out to be but you obviously don't know what your talking about if your trying to make me seem like this.
Also just cause you're an admin in a monobenzone forum doesn't mean you know more about monobenzone then the average person if I'm correct you yourself haven't even used monobenzone yourself so I just don't understand what your trying to make yourself out to be. Wasn't it back in December that you never even heard of monobenzone? In fact I have the link below to prove it. Do you remember in December when you yes entity33 you continually asked me to reply to your question of what monobenzone was in the first place if you don't remember I think this link will refresh your memory
https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/showthread.php?p=62523#post62523
Your not a doctor in the first place so you can't state many of these things your saying as fact also if I'm correct your not a user of monobenzone yourself so you can't even state this as fact on behalf of personal use. So if any one is possibly misinforming people its you, by stating things you've heard as fact, as for me I have never stated anything I've said as fact.
In all of the posts I have made I have always said things like I think... or I heard that... or in my opinion... I never ever said it's a said.. it's a fact that... or this is true for sure... because this is a forum where people can come and give opinions, and advice of there own. Since you did not do your research on me before making this accusation about me to prove my point I've put a link below on every post I've made. By all means look through and then tell me if I've ever told anyone what to do or think of monobenzone.

How about you let everyone else decide what to believe and what not to believe for themselves it is not in your place to tell people who's worth listening to.

Yeah you got me Brownsugar. That was a beautiful rebuttal I must admit.
But the majority of things I said is correct and clarifies on most of the misinformation that has been rumored around the net about monobenzone, which in result would cause many people to destroy their otherwise beautiful/even skin tone (usually permanently).
My apologies for directly insulting your credibility and indirectly affecting your reputation on this forum. But other than that, I stand by everything else I said. Everyone feel free to believe me or not.

I have been using products sold by this lady who lives in Nashville, US. She is an indian and has these herbal products. The best product that she has are Shagrain and Sha Gold Mask, which I have used for 8 months now. It has made my skin fairer by 2-3 degrees, but I am looking for some pill that I can have orally too, to complement the shagrain and sha gold mask.
I want to use something that is 100% natural. I used some of these products - godiva, amira, etc with no results at all.
Then I went Regis in New York and one of the girls there put me in contact with this woman in Nashville. She told me some stuff about my skin and I sent her my pictures and she solved some of my queries on skin lightening.
She told me that:
This may seem elementary to some of you here, but, what she told me is:
1. skin is dark for 2 reasons : permanent tanning ( tanning during childhood), hereditary factors.
2. by cleaning your skin everyday (without using any whitening products) you can improve your skin tone by 1-2 degrees.
3. If you use a mild exfoliant you can improve it another one degree
She gave me a lot of tips on cleaning my face and stuff. She taught me that it's a regular process and you have to use 3-4 thing together to attain the colour you want.
