Can you go to jail for having credit card debt for certain credit cards.

I suppose that might be a possibility down the road after all other avenues of the credit card companies getting their money have been explored. But, it's usually not what happens. I personally, have not known someone to go to jail for credit card debt. But, maybe someone else has.

Why do you ask, please?

I'm not an expert on financing or credit card debt. But, I have been in debt with credit cards to the extent that court action was going to take place.

I do have strategies that I used in order to avoid the court action and also lower payments on cards to what I can afford. I may be able to advise you concerning that, if you would share some with me as to why you are asking your question.

Because I receive a subpoena in the mail from one of my credit card companies, they want me to fill out all this information about me, I do not know what to do, do you think I should send it?

I wouldn't send out or sign anything without speaking with the credit card company first. Have you tried calling them? Is it a subpoena for you to go to court or just a letter that says they will be taking court action against you?

The credit card is with the attorneys office and they will not answer any of my questions until I send the subpoena.

From the court? Was it hand-delivered to you?

Only as a very last resort after absolutely everything else has been tried.

The pros that I know of would be that you would have your debts to people to whom you owe money paid off, either in whole or in part. I'm no expert at this. But, I have considered filing at certain times myself. There are also at least two types of bankruptcy to consider. I'm not sure of all the ins and outs to them.

You would get more or less of a fresh start with your finances would be another pro.

The cons that I can think of would be that you have to pay for the bankruptcy and that your credit for a number of years will be not very good at all.

Some additional questions:

Are you working?

Are you married?

Do you own your own home and automobiles?

Is this subpoena for only one credit card?
