If I do not ground the dryer it will turn on. I just got a he3 dryer but I live in a old house with a 3 prong outlet and the dryer wire is a 4 prong and I replaced the 4 prong wire for a 3 prong wire. When I tried to star up I just heard a click and the dryer do not work. What is wrong with the dryer?

As an alternative you can run a ground wire from the dryer cabinet to the screw that holds the coverplate on the outlet. Use a substantial gage wire, 14 gage min.
