I need help, my plumbing has been backed up for a year, with no money to repair we have used blow outs etc, according to one gentlemen that did snake it and show me how to blow back seems to think the actual clog is on the cities side of responsibility, however they refuse to dig until I expose all my drain pipe.Plumbing co wants 1300.00 to dig 10 ft section, so if I can find out where to buy the pipe locator my sons can dig to save money, any suggestions? I would be greatly thankful for any help. I am medically disabled and on low income, so there fore, 1300 is out of the quesiton.

I'll bet you can pay a plumbing contractor to video the sewer line and sign an afadavid as to where the damage is.
It would help to know the material that the sewer line is made of: Cast iron or PVC.

If they want the whole thing dug up, can you identify where it exits the house, and start there? Sometimes you can see it in a crawl space or basement. An outside clean out is a sure thing. Try standing out in the yard and looking at your roof top vent. Often the main stack goes straight down from it, and turns and exits.
Can you say more about the pipe locator?

You cannot camera a line if if it is still stopped up because you cannot see where the clog is nor can you use a locater to find it because you may push past the clog or borken down pipe. In my expernice I would have to say the it is on you side of the deal because your neighbor would have complained as well if it was the citys problem, because they would have been backed up as well..
Also if it is old cast iron sewer I bet it is borkedown in your yard somewhere cast iron is bad about that

ngriffey- Your sewer line could also be (ORANGEBERG PIPE) but I don't know how old your house is . It was used a long time ago, it's a black fiberious type pipe and it was bad at having tree roots to grow inside it, and completey close the pipe up. Most city sewer s are brout about 5 ft. inside the property line from the sewer tap and are responsible for it up to that point. This is the first time I've ever heard of (EXPOSE ALL YOUR SEWER LINE THEN THEY WILL DO SOMETHING, That's part of the taxs you pay for ,plus I bet you have a sewer charge on your water bill, cost figured on the amout of water used. There should be a clean out close to edge of property edge. Check out and call city back and talk to superv. Good luck :::: F.B.E.
