View Full Version : Wiring for vanity lights

My instructions for installing my vanity lights state I must attach the black fixture wire with the black box wire and the white with the white. My wall box has a red wire and a tan (neutral?) wire but no black or white wire. What should I do?
Also, there seems to be no green screw to attach the ground wire so what should I do with the ground wire? My instructions say to "connect the fixture ground wire to the power supply ground wire" but I don't know what the 'power supply ground wire' is.
Thank you.

Is the box metal, with metal cable connected to the box? If so, the box is ground, and the green wire can be connected to a screw on the box.

Assuming the former light was connected, the red should connect to the black, and "tan" to the white.

Would be best to measure voltage, should get 120 volts across the red and tan, and across the red to the metal box.
