Our house was built in 1977, we are the only owners. Our basement/foundations has cracks on all the walls along the cinderblock foundation. We are waiting for an engineer to access the cost of shoring up the walls. Would this be covered by home owners or is the foundation covered under a warranty and how do I find this out? Please help, thank you so much!
I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I doubt very much the foundation is still covered by any warranty. We're talking 27 years after the house was built.
In my neck of the woods (Alberta Canada) new houses generally usually have a one year warranty on major items such as foundations.
Hopefully, the engineer will be able to suggest a relatively inexpensive fix.

I'm a home inspector ,and it sounds like you should not worry about it but the engineer can tell you better .
If I were to inspect the house I would suggest having an engineer look at it any ways.

Nearly every foundation will have cracks after 27 years. Homes do not always settle perfectly and concrete is pretty rigid as are cement blocks. Hairline cracks are normal but several cracks 1/4" or bigger needs to be looked at by a structural engineer,
