I submitted my papers for acquiring Portuguese nationality 4 yrs ago in 2000.
My process was dragged on as usual by lisbon authorities since 6 yrs

In 2005 I received my identification process appt date wherein was asked to get an original document issued to my parents during Portuguese era ,which is impossible me as my parents disposed all papers 40 yrs old

I went to the consulate to submit my papers with notary attested copy of my mothers segundrau or 12 th standard certificate and attached copy of portuguese boletim wherein her name appeared,

TO MY UTTER SHOCK THEY BLUNTLY REFUSED MY APPLICATION because I was born after 1961 ,and asked me to get a original document which i.e.@50 yrs old,not xerox copy.

After massive document hunt operation I went up to the p. consulate in Goa to tell them about the news of my failure to dig out portuguese document and advice about what was going to happen about my 6 year process.

The consular staff advised me -
1)If I do not get an old document my process is over... ie fullstop
2)I was given manual instructions by consular staff how to go to various government offices and pick pocket the old documents which are stacked there
3)They gave me a glance at the old documents submitted at the consulate,needless to say 90% of which were "robbed" by desperate goan people to submit to the Portuguese consulate

C'mom isn't enough,enough.

I have personally seen people queing up at ministers residence now,I do not know how long this old document rule will last but I feel either they put a stop to this bogus racket or remove this rule at least for the old applicants who are repenting for having applied.

All I know is people are very enraged ,and one cannot do this neocolonialism in a free democratic country anymore,it does not work out this way anymore in India.
There are 101 places to go if not portugal or europe,and you simply cannot fool people like this.I wuld advice lisbon not to go that way(sponging 3rd wrld countries)seeing the general feeling of hatred and contempt towards the potuguese consulate in Goa in present circumstances which I feel is justified.

I wish to know if I can apply for a renewal of my passport over the Internet for me and my son.

I would like to apply for renewal of my passport for me and my son, can I apply over the INternet or do I have to go into the Consulate

We had the same problem.
They are too bureacratic. There are two staff Analisa and Natasha who are even more powerful than the ambasador. But who are local and do not understand procedure.
They are not dumb blodes but then again they are not efficient ane effective.

1. I would consult a lawyer in Portugal.
2. I would write a letter complaining that all papers are in order and that this additional doucment is irrelevant and unnecessary.
3. Write to the ambassador: Portuguese Ambassador to India, Mr Luis Filipe Castro Mendes and Consul General of Portugal to Goa, Mr Paulo Neves Pocinho copy to The Portuguese Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Luis Amado.

5. Also write to the EU parliament - EU court of justice complaining that Portugal has different rules for those in Goa and the rest of the world. For e.g.. Goan need an appointment yet those from gujurat, Daman and diu get all their work done without one. They are only trying to delay people from applying yet it simply creates a problem.
The easiest thing would be for them to pay for full computerisation of the birth certificates in the archives in Goa. This would easily be paid back by those seeking ancestral history by genealogy websites. It would help validate their paperwork and applications.
6. The basic problem with the consulate and portugla is that they have so much bureaucracy that the corruption is based in the hands of those that they actulally ask for authentication of paperwork. Eg. A Barata in the Nairobi consulate was rumoured to take money for work. She should have been investigated She was a frequent visitor to the Casino in Naorobi to legal lise her monies.
7. pass on this website to all and I mean all. Even if it means printing copies and giving out to those queing at the consulate.

This person maria 123 needs to get her/his loyalties clear. I am quite surprised at

What does this mean? Has anything been done wrong by Indian authorities? I guess none. Now you are trying to give up your Indian citizenship and take a foreign citizenship and trying to say that the bureaucracy of Portugal will not work in India. Isn't this amusing? If there are 101 places to go other than Portugal than, please go, what is stopping you?
